You're reading: Ukraine introduces state funding of political parties

The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has passed a bill which envisages public funding for political parties.

A total of 229 MPs voted for bill No. 2123-a on amending some legislative acts on preventing and combating political corruption at a meeting on Thursday, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent has reported.

The document was adopted with amendments which were announced in the parliamentary hall by MP Ruslan Kniazevych.

The public funding of political parties will start on July 1, 2016. According to the law, state funding will be provided to the parties that passed the 5% threshold at parliamentary elections.
