Strasbourg, June 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has called on Europe to analyze the situation in Ukraine on the basis of the objective situation, rather than political statements.

"We propose analyzing the situation in Ukraine based on objective factors, rather than political statements," he said at a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg on Tuesday.

Yanukovych said that former Ukrainian officials, "using their status as opposition members, are trying to evade responsibility for corrupt activities."

He noted that hundreds of criminal cases had been opened in Ukraine against former and current officials.

Yanukovych said that he had the political will to fight corruption in Ukraine.
