Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn on Tuesday discussed the adoption of Ukraine’s state budget for 2012 and problems facing the country this year, the parliament speaker said at a meeting with the members of the Junior Academy of Sciences.

He said that one week of plenary meetings would be held this year and that "we have to adopt by the end of this year the law on the state budget," which is currently being agreed in the Cabinet of Ministers.

Lytvyn said that the difficult economic situation in the world and the country’s limited economic opportunities should be taken into account during the formation of the country’s main financial document.

The speaker noted the importance of passing a realistic state budget.

The head of state and the speaker also discussed the political situation, including the situation in the Verkhovna Rada.

The sides also discussed talks between Ukraine and the EU regarding the association agreement and the creation of a free trade area.
