Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has proposed transferring some powers of central government agencies in the provision of administrative services to the regions.

"It is very important that we bring state administrative services closer to the people. And where do the people live? In the regions. So we need to resolve the issue of having to go to Kyiv and everything being resolved there – transfer part of these powers to the regions, so that most issues are resolved in the regions," he said at a meeting of the Economic Reform Committee in Kyiv on Friday.

"Strategic decisions should be made in the center, and the rest in the regions," Yanukovych said.

He also stressed the need to reduce the number of different kinds of certificates.
