Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen, Dick Durbin, Amy Klobuchar and Elizabeth Warren recently met to discuss issues related to Russian aggression and the ongoing reforms in Ukraine.

Yatsenyuk thanked the representatives of the U.S. Congress for their unanimous and steadfast support of Ukraine, both in the protection of its independence and territorial integrity, and in the implementation of internal reforms, the Ukrainian government’s press service said in a statement released on Oct. 12.

“U.S. Senators noted the significant progress demonstrated by the government of the country in the implementation of the urgent reform goals. Special attention during the talks was paid to the issues related to deregulation, the improvement of the investment and business climate, ensuring the rule of law and combating corruption,” the statement said.

The participants of the meeting also discussed a range of issues related to countering Russian aggression and on security policy in the region and worldwide.

“Yatsenyuk emphasized the security challenges arising from a constant aggressive political line of the Kremlin. He stressed the importance of maintaining and strengthening solidarity between Ukraine, the United States and the European Union in order to counter Russian expansionism and protect the fundamental principles of civilized international relations and values inherent to the free and democratic world,” the government’s press service reported.
