Minsk - Belarus has decided to withdraw its embassy from Sweden and return all of its diplomatic workers in that country back home, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry told Interfax.

“The Swedish Foreign Ministry has preferred to escalate tensions and
decided in addition to expel two senior diplomats from the Belarusian
embassy, including the charge d’affaires, and deny entry to Sweden to a
new Belarusian ambassador, who had previously had an agrement from the
Swedish government,” the Foreign Ministry said.

Hence, the diplomatic staff of the Belarusian Embassy in Stockholm
has been reduced to two junior diplomats, who do not have enough powers
and qualification to run the mission, it said.

“Therefore, Belarus had to make a decision on withdrawing its Embassy
to Sweden and returning all of its workers to the Republic of Belarus.
Steps toward this are already being made,” it said.
