Minsk, April 12 (Interfax) - Those standing behind Monday's explosion in the Minsk subway system threw down a serious challenge to the Belarusian authorities, President Alexander Lukashenko said.

"A serious challenge has been thrown down to us. It calls for an adequate response, which should be found," Lukashenko said at an emergency cabinet meeting on April 11 evening.

"I warned you before that they would not leave us alone. But who are they? I ask you to move faster to find an answer to this question," he said.

The president also called on Belarusian citizens to help track down those involved in the incident.

"There is nothing to justify our failure to ensure security in this place of the capital. It was our fault as well. And all of the necessary measures must be taken," he said.

Lukashenko demanded that a day of mourning be declared in Minsk for the blast victims.

"I think that it is necessary to declare a day of mourning in Minsk to pay respect to these people," he said.
