LONDON/MOSCOW - London has characterized local media reports on the rules governing combat actions by the Royal Air Force in Iraq as inaccurate.

“We can confirm that our Moscow Defense Attache met with the Russian Ministry of Defense today. The Russian government sought clarification over inaccurate newspaper reports concerning RAF rules of engagement in Iraq,” a Foreign Office official told Interfax.

The military attache visited the Russian Defense Ministry on Sunday.

The British newspaper Daily Star Sunday reported on Sunday, citing sources in the British Ministry of Defense, that the NATO pilots involved in operations against extremists in Iraq had been warned about the need to return the fire if they are attacked by Russian warplanes.
