Moscow - Croatia is interested in building an extension from the South Stream gas pipeline, but it is not priority energy project, Croatian Ambassador to Russian Igor Pokaz said in Moscow.

“We plan to continue construction of the South Stream branch line,
but this is not a number one priority for us. We are engaged in our own
autonomous production in the Adriatic Sea. We are also taking part in
other projects,” Pokaz said in an interview with Interfax.

“We continue to remain interested in building a South Stream branch line,” he said.

Pokaz “remains optimistic” that an agreement between the European
Commission and Russian investors on construction of South Stream will be
reached.

Croatia is working to diversify its gas supply sources. “We are
interested in implementing both the Trans-Adriatic and the South Stream
gas pipeline projects. We believe this is how Croatia can contribute to
the development of EU energy infrastructure. All these projects will
enable the diversification of gas supplies, for Croatia and for Europe,”
he said.
