MOSCOW - Sergei Korzun, a co-funder and first editor-in-chief of the Ekho Moskvy radio station has quit his job, which is clear from his open letter posted on LiveJournal.

“I no longer work with Ekho Moskvy radio. The Ekho we launched in 1990 has ceased t exist. The organs are still functioning but the brain is dead. This is my personal judgment,” Korzun wrote.

He said he had discussed his decision with the editor-in-chief, Alexei Venediktov, who disagreed with his opinion.

Behind the resignation are two statements by Venediktov’s spokesperson Lesya Ryabtseva , he said.

“I had been supporting Alexei as the radio station’s editor-in chief in my communication space. I thought he was firmly observing the principles we had jointly laid for the Ekho’s media brand. Today, I do not want, cannot and will not support the captain’s new course to maintain the rating to the detriment of the basic values,” Korzun said.

Venediktov in turn told Interfax that Korzun will always be welcome back.

“I told Sergei that he will always find a place on Ekho Moskvy radio as long as I remain editor-in-chief,” Benediktov said.
