Moscow - Gazprom's decision to lift the limit on gas supplies to Europe in the spring has brought down prices at gas hubs to around $240 per 1,000 cubic meters.

On March 6, Gazprom suddenly decided to lift a restriction on gas shipments to Europe through Ukraine. The restriction had been in effect for the previous six months. Gazprom was hoping that this would cause reverse shipments from the EU to Ukraine to stop, but this did not happen.

On Britain’s National Balancing Point (NBP), gas prices fell on March 6 to $240.3 per 1,000 cubic meters. On March 5, trading closed at $257 and the maximum this year was at $304 on Feb. 12.

On Austria’s CEGH in Baumgarten, which receives Russian gas through Ukraine, deals took place on March 2 at $243.
