MOSCOW - Germany has made more protests at Moscow's refusal to let German Christian Democratic lawmaker Karl-Georg Wellmann into Russia.

The German ambassador in Moscow protested to the Russian Foreign Ministry, and the German Foreign Ministry protested to the Russian ambassador in Berlin, Interfax was told at the German Embassy in Moscow on May 26.

An embassy source told the agency the embassy did not know why Wellmann had not been allowed to enter Russia.

The source mentioned a statement by a German Foreign Ministry spokesman on May 25 that described the ban on Wellmann’s entry as “incomprehensible and unacceptable.”

The German ministry expressed hope that Russia would lift the ban.
