You're reading: Kremlin: Polls show absolute majority of Russians back Putin’s foreign policy

The absolute majority of Russian citizens support the policy pursued by Russia's President Vladimir Putin in the international arena, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Oct. 8, citing results of public opinion surveys.

“Judging by the information that we receive from sociologists, we can say now that the president’s activities in the foreign policy arena enjoy almost absolute support among the population,” he said.

“The president and other representatives of Russia explain their steps quite clearly and in no uncertain terms. They explain the goals set by them in order to implement different decisions,” Peskov said.

“According to sociologists, it is also possible to conclude that Russians like these explanations and reasoning,” Peskov said.

The Kremlin spokesman, however, declined to say whether possible losses among Russians in Syria and the dragging out of the operation in that country may influence Putin’s stance on Syria.

“You ask questions that do not tolerate any conventions. Hypothetical reasoning is absolutely inappropriate here,” Peskov said.
