MINSK - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has threatened to give up the idea of merging Belarus's OAO MAZ and Russia's OAO KamAZ into the RosBelavto holding if the earlier agreed terms no longer suit Russian partners.

“We firmly agreed that if we merged assets, then the joint company
would be based on a 50-50 principle and managed accordingly. If you need
a controlling stake and the price asked by Belarus is too high, well
then, if it’s too expensive, then we shouldn’t accept it. Let’s work,”
Lukashenko said, receiving Bashkortostan President Rustem Khamitov, in
Minsk on June 14.

He was commenting on a recent statement by Russian ambassador to
Belarus Alexander Surikov who reproached the Belarusian side for being
reluctant to hand over a controlling stake in MAZ.
