You're reading: Medvedev did not change structure to maintain govt efficiency

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has said that he intentionally chose to keep the structure of the country's government largely intact in order to maintain its efficiency.

"The government’s structure has not undergone any major changes. It was my choice. I presented this structure to the president for one simple reason: if serious changes are made to any structure, it will need a year to start to function again. But the government does not have this year," Medvedev said at a meeting with the action group in charge of forming the Russian government’s expert council.

"We need to begin working immediately, tackle day-to-day tasks and implement reforms needed in the economy and the social sector," the prime minister said."That is why the structure looks this way. I think that it sufficiently matches the tasks we will have to tackle," he said.
