ASTANA - Incumbent Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev won 97.7 percent of the vote in the April 26 presidential elections, the Central Elections Commission said in a tentative report.

The April 26 presidential elections in Kazakhstan had 95.22 percent turnout, the Central Elections Commission said.

Kazakhstan held early presidential elections on April 26. There were three candidates in the ballot, among them incumbent President Nursultan Nazarbayev nominated by the Nur Otan party, Kazakhstan Communist People’s Party Central Committee Secretary Turgun Syzdykov, and self-nominated candidate, Kazakhstan Trade Union Federation Chairman Abelgazi Kusainov.

At the moment, Abelgazi Kusainov won 0.7% of the vote, Turgun Syzdykov – 1.6 percent, and Nursultan Nazarbayev – 97.7 percent, Central Elections Committee Chairman Kuandyk Turgankulov said at a press briefing in Astana on April 27.

Kazakhstan has a population of 17.4 million and 9,514,988 eligible voters. The Central Elections Commission ordered the printing of 9,610,138 ballot papers. The elections were held at over 9,700 polling stations.
