MOSCOW - A public opinion poll conducted by the Levada Center shows that people's confidence in Russian President Vladimir Putin is due to the fact that he "is successfully and effectively resolving the country's problems" (37 percent), and they also hope that Putin will be able to deal with problems in the future (36 percent).

The poll, which surveys 1,600 people living in 134 populated areas in 46 regions of Russia, was conducted on Oct. 2-5.

Another 26 percent of the respondents believe that “people don’t see anyone else they can rely on.”

Almost half of the respondents (49 percent) believe that “Putin sincerely wants to boost people’s wellbeing, but he cannot do that because of bureaucratic resistance and the absence of a good team.” Twenty-five percent of the respondents believe that “Putin sincerely wants to boost people’s wellbeing and he can do that within the next six years.”

Another 15 percent believe that “Putin is saying many right words, but is not going to do anything what he has promised,” and 6 percent believe that “he doesn’t want to do anything because he is only interested in keeping power.”

The respondents were also asked to evaluate Putin’s work in the post of president on a scale from one (the lowest) to ten (the highest). The average grade in this scale was 7.39 points (against 7.33 points in 2014 and 6.07 in 2013).
