You're reading: Russia may adjust gas prices for Ukraine if it joins Customs Union – Duma chairman

The possibility that Russia could adjust its gas prices for Ukrainian consumers directly depends on Kyiv's steps toward joining the Customs Union, said Russian State Duma Chairman Boris Gryzlov.

"The formation of common Customs Union institutions will undoubtedly produce a significant economic effect and will be mutually beneficial for all of the member-states," Gryzlov told journalists on Thursday.

He pointed out that Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin had said this at the intergovernmental negotiations during his recent visit to Ukraine.

"In this case, we could also talk about the adjustment of gas prices for Ukrainian consumers," he said.

Gryzlov praised the outcomes of the negotiations the Russian government delegation held in Kyiv and welcomed Ukraine’s intention to switch to practical steps toward integration between the Ukrainian and Russian gas sectors.

"In particular, we deem our Ukrainian partners’ intention to start the appraisal of the future joint venture’s assets an important step," he said.
