Minsk, July 28 (Interfax) - Silent protests were staged in several Belarusian cities on Wednesday evening despite the absence of such calls from the authors of the Revolution Through Social Networks website, Belarusian online newspapers have reported.

Around 10-30 people gathered on squares marked as silent protest venues in Bobruisk, Brest and Mogilyov, they said.

Despite proposals to hold silent protests at markets across Belarus on Thursday, no people who could be identified as participants in such rallies can be seen at markets.

Two people were detained at Wednesday’s protest in Brest, the online newspapers said.

There was a stronger police presence on Oktyabrskaya Square in the center of the Belarusian capital Minsk, although no attempts were made to stage a silent protest there.
