TBILISI - Georgian National Security Council Secretary Giga Bokeria has accused Moscow and Sukhumi of trying to obstruct the EU mission's role in the region.

"The EU Monitoring Mission [EUMM] is one of the main international tools of stability and peace, and everyone who wants to preserve peace wants this mission to function without any impediments," Bokeria told journalists on April 26 in commenting on Sukhumi’s declaration of EUMM head Andrzej Tydzkiewicz a persona non grata in Abkhazia.

"Those who are against the EU mission openly display their hidden intentions aimed against peace and stability," he said.

"Russia is trying to compromise and weaken the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia with the aim of further exacerbating the situation in the region," he said.

"These open and brazen attempts by the Russian Federation and its puppets to compromise and weaken the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia cause concerns. They cannot reach their goal and shaken the foundation of this mission’s functioning," he said.

Georgia will not leave these activities without its attention, he said.

The Abkhaz Foreign Ministry declared Tyszkiewicz a persona non grata on April 25.
