Marseille - Three Russian citizens were hospitalized after sustaining injuries in a traffic accident in southern France on Sunday, a spokesman for the Russian consular service in Marseille told Interfax. 

A Russian married couple, who suffered bodily injuries, is at a hospital in Perpignan, and another passenger with a spinal injury is at a hospital in Narbonne, he said.

A Russian diplomat is on his way to Narbonne to provide consular assistance to the injured Russian passenger.

No information is available whether there were more Russians aboard the passenger bus, the spokesman said.

French news agencies reported that a Eurolines bus crashed in southern France, leaving two passengers dead and 30 others seriously injured.

The accident occurred at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday on the A-9 motorway in Aude. The bus was traveling from Marseille to Murcia, Spain.

The bus was driven by a team of three drivers – a French, Spanish and Ukrainian citizens. It was reportedly carrying tourists from Russia, Ukraine, Spain and France.

One hundred and fifty firefighters and four helicopter crews were involved in the rescue effort. A medical aid camp was set up at the scene.

Driver’s error could have caused the disaster. Police are investigating.
