The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine has started an investigation on the retail medicine market which will cover the largest pharmacy chains and their key suppliers, the press service of the committee has reported.

The press service said that along with objective factors that have
caused a rise in the prices of medicines, including the introduction of
value added tax (VAT) on medicines and the devaluation of the hryvnia,
there are signs of abuse of power on the retail medicines market and
agreed competitive behavior of the market players.

“The committee will analyze the mechanism for formation of prices of
medicines on the market. If signs of infringement of the law on the
protection of economic competition were revealed, the committee will
take measures in line with Ukrainian law,” reads the report.
