Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov has called on Ukrainians to save energy.

"We ask our citizens to do everything possible to save energy. Because considering the gas pit facing the whole of society and the fettering gas contracts, a closed window, insulated doors and the efficient use of a gas stove are matters of patriotism and survival," he said while opening a meting of the government on Wednesday.

Azarov said that by October 1 the fuel and energy complex enterprises have to be ready for the upcoming heating season.

The premier also stressed the necessity to supply schools and hospitals with heat.

"The first report of freezing schoolchildren or patients will be a ticket to the labor exchange for a municipal head or a respective director," the premier said.

Azarov also charged First Vice Premier and Economic Development and Trade Minister of Ukraine Andriy Kliuyev with eliminating of risks to, accidents with, and losses of energy sources.
