You're reading: Azarov: Putin never put pressure on Ukrainian side in talks

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said that his Russian colleague Vladimir Putin applied no pressure in order to achieve the required results during their two-day talks.

"All our meetings and contacts with Mr. Putin show that the Russian side never applied methods of pressure. And this was the position of partners. Some things didn’t suit us, some things in our position didn’t suit us, but we have never in the history of our relations applied methods of pressure," the head of the Ukrainian government said at a meeting with German reporters in Kyiv on Monday.

At the same time, Azarov drew journalists’ attention to the fact that during talks with some of Ukraine’s other partners there have been attempts to impose unacceptable conditions on Ukraine.

"These relations [of Ukraine and Russia] differ from relations with other our partners who tried to apply pressure, and, sometimes in an unacceptable form, tried to impose their point of view on us," the Ukrainian premier said.

Azarov failed to give concrete examples, but expressed hope that "this giving of advice by means of pressure will end."
