Ukraine could cooperate with both the Customs Union and the European Union at the same time, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said.

“There are serious surveys saying that we should cooperate with the
Customs Union member states. And I would like to stress that we should
also interact with another customs union – the European Union,” he said
in an interview with the 1+1 Channel on December 16.

Asked whether such simultaneous cooperation is possible, Azarov said: “Of course.”

According to the premier, Ukraine is currently intensifying its
relations with the EU. At the same time, he said that movement towards
the Customs Union also meets Ukraine’s national interests, as the
union’s member states are among its biggest trade partners.

“More than a third of our trade volume is related to the Customs
Union. This fact obliges us to find a consensus and, if it is necessary,
to join separate agreements within the Customs Union,” the premier
said.
