You're reading: Biden says US hopes for success of constitutional, other reforms in Ukraine

The United States expects reforms in key areas from Ukraine, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden has said.

“There is no better ways to prove your determination and business as usual: pass an anti-trust bill, anti-trust legislation, keep working and reform your election laws to ensure that as decentralization moves forward local government is really representative and accountable,” Biden said in his video address to the participants of the International Support Conference for Ukraine, which is taking place in Kyiv on April 28.

He urged the Ukrainian authorities to be democratic and transparent.

“A long hard road lies ahead, but the people of Ukraine and their courage give me great hope,” he said.

“That’s what the Kremlin fears most, as all of you know, prosperous, democratic, independent and reform-oriented Ukraine,” Biden added.

He also said that constitutional reform will benefit all the people of Ukraine and allow for greater local autonomy. He also urged the Ukrainian authorities to keep moving forward using the laws and to investigate and prosecute corruption, both past and present and at all levels.

Biden said that the U.S. would provide all kinds of support to Ukraine on this path.
