Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky on June 1 tendered his resignation, of which his personal Web site reported on Saturday.
"This decision is very well thought-out. I made it in order to avoid any political insinuations and the use by various political forces of the situation surrounding the scheduling of the next mayoral elections in Kyiv and the interpretation of the duration of my office," Chernovetsky said in a statement.
