Trade between China and Ukraine should reach $10 billion in 2012, Chinese Leader Hu Jintao said at a meeting in Beijing on Thursday with Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.

According to China’s estimates, trade between China and Ukraine currently stands at $7.7 billion, the Ukrainian government’s press service reported.

Azarov said that Ukraine is paying special attention to developing its partnership with China.

In particular, the prime minister highlighted cooperation in the space, aviation, and defense sectors, and in information technology.

The parties also noted that in 2010 trade between the two countries grew by more than third (36%).

Ukraine and China are currently preparing to sign an agreement on strategic partnership, in particular in the implementation of large-scale projects.

During the meeting, Hu Jintao assured Azarov that he was willing to visit Ukraine.

As reported, the Ukrainian prime minister is on an official visit to China.
