Communists are planning to hold a demonstration and a rally on Ploscha Svobody (Freedom Square) in Kharkiv on Victory Day on May 9, first secretary of Kharkiv regional office of the Communist Party of Ukraine Alla Aleksandrovska has said. "In the morning, together with everybody we will lay flowers [at the Memorial of Glory], afterwards at 1400 we will start demonstration from Dzerkalny Strumin to Lenin monument, where we will hold a small rally," Aleksandrovska told Interfax-Ukraine.

According to her, the relevant notification has already been submitted to the mayor’s office.

“I don’t possess any information that they are trying to forbid it through court or in any other way,” she said.

As reported, on April 6, Kharkiv governor Ihor Baluta said that the Victory Day military parade on Ploscha Svobody in Kharkiv had been canceled for security reasons. In addition, a traditional holiday concert had been canceled as well.

On April 7, Kharkiv Mayor Hennadiy Kernes in his appeal posted on the Web site of the city council said that the festive program on Victory Day in Kharkiv would be considerably cut not to risk life and health of people, due to the reports about possible clashes.

The executive committee of Kharkiv city council also addressed to the citizens with the request not to participate in political rallies on May 9, due to a possible threat of provocations.
