The UEFA lottery to select fans to be given the right to buy tickets for Euro 2012 matches will be conducted in closed mode in 93 stages, the Ukraine 2012 Information Center reported on Wednesday.

"After the completion of the ticket application stage (March 31), there will be a period of sorting and processing of information. The current number of ticket applications indicates that the number of those wishing to purchase tickets is several times greater than the number of tickets. Therefore, the right to buy tickets will be determined by computer lottery. But since we are talking about the order of tickets for different matches and tickets of various price categories, in fact, lotteries will be held for each of the 31 matches in each of the three price categories separately. Thus, in total, 93 lotteries will be held," said Pedro Correia, the head of planning and tickets for Euro 2012.

He said that this procedure would be conducted in Switzerland in the presence of a notary, but added that broadcasting of the event was not planned.

The exact date of the ticket lottery remains unknown. The lottery will tentatively take place in the second half of April 2011.

Preparing about 1.4 million tickets for sale, UEFA believes that match attendance will be 95%. If such categories as UEFA family, VIP guests, hospitality packages, media partners, commercial entities, and national football federations are not taken into account, then only 41% of tickets will go on sale, or about 500,000 tickets.
