Russia must prepare for a new economic reality in the event external pressure intensifies, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.

“But we shouldn’t have any illusions. Today we are up against more than just short-term crisis phenomena. If the pressure from outside increases, if oil prices stay extremely low for long, then we’ll have to develop in a different economic reality, which will test us all to the limit,” he said while giving a report on the government’s performance in the State Duma.

This is the reality in which Russia needs to learn how to operate, to resolve complex and important tasks for development of the country. “I am confident that we will be able to live with such a reality. The experience of the latest period shows that we have already mastered this. Although this was probably not the best development,” he said.
