You're reading: Dnipropetrovsk region willing to take over parts of Donetsk, Luhansk regions

Acting deputy governor of Dnipropetrovsk region Borys Filatov on May 12 claimed that referendums in the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk on proposed vast autonomy for them included polls in some of the two regions' districts on alleged proposals for them to go over under Dnipropetrovsk jurisdiction. Dnipropetrovsk is willing to take those districts in if the returns of the supposed polls show their population wants this, Filatov told reporters.

“On the basis of the returns of the referendums, the Verkhovna Rada [Ukrainian parliament] would have to issue a decision on changing the administrative territorial structure of Ukraine,” he said. Only after that would such territorial recarving be possible, Filatov said.

He added that the Dnipropetrovsk administration had made every effort “to prevent separatism from flourishing in the Dnipropetrovsk region.”
