You're reading: Donbas militants’ attacks on Ukrainian positions almost halved

The number of militants' attacks on the Ukrainian army positions in the southeast has reduced 1.5-2 times over the past day, Ukrainian Presidential Administration spokesman for the army operation in Donbas Andriy Lysenko has said.

“The intensity of hostile activity was noticeably down yesterday. The number of ceasefire violations by the militants have reduced by more than 1.5-2 times,” Lysenko said at a press briefing in Kyiv on Thursday.

In his words, the militants opened fire from Popasna towards Schastia in the Luhansk area. One hundred and twenty-two millimeter militants’ guns fired on the Popasna suburbs, killing a woman and damaging the Luhansk thermal power plant in Schastia. The power plant has restored operation.

The militants conducted a number of attacks on Ukrainian positions using mortars and 122mm canons near Mykolaivka and Shyrokyne in the Mariupol area, Lysenko said.

The situation in the Donetsk airport zone has improved, and no heavy weapons have been used there, he said.

Sporadic shootouts have happened in the Mariyinka district and the village of Lozove.

Three drones were seen flying in the past 24 hours.
