The European Union does not rule out that a decision to sign an association agreement with Ukraine may be taken at a later stage, even during the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius, which will be held in late November, a senior EU official told Interfax-Ukraine in Brussels on Friday.

“When will the final decision be taken? The decision may come either in November (a meeting of the European Council on Foreign Affairs is scheduled for November 18), or later, closer to the summit or at the summit itself,” the source said.

Speaking about the meeting of the EU Council of Ministers that will take place in Luxembourg on October 21, the European official said that there would be no official decision on Ukraine taken at that meeting.

“At the press conference, Catherine Ashton (EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission) will present the results of the discussion. There will be no official decisions, because we want to keep all options open,” the source said.
