Trade between Russia and Ukraine has fallen sharply due to the political events in the latter, the Russian Federal Customs Service (FCS) reported.

“Trade across the Russian-Ukrainian board has fallen 20% on
individual items: tea, fruit and vegetables, instrumentation,
construction materials and other goods groups,” FCS first deputy head
Vladimir Malinin told journalists in Rostov-on-Don on Thursday.

“But the Russian side is not making a problem out of that. There is no critical situation at the border,” he said.

Customs operations at the border are being carried out as usual, Malinin said.

“At Perekop [where the Crimean Peninsula connects to the mainland] the international border is currently begin organized and the FCS is
organizing posts. Russian customs officials are already there and
conducting customs formalities in ‘manual mode,’ for both rail and
vehicular transport,” he said.
