You're reading: Fifteen hectares of forest ablaze outside Kyiv

A fire broke out in the Bila Dibrova forest of the Darnytsia aesthetic forestry area outside Kyiv, spreading over an area of 15 hectares as of evening Sep. 2, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ukrainian State Service of Emergency Situations in Kyiv said.

“The operational coordination center of the Ukrainian Emergencies Service Main Directorate received a call at 01:17 p.m. on September 2 that the forest is on fire at the Bila Dibrova forest of the Darnytsia aesthetic forest […] Firefighting brigades rushed to the fire site and started fighting the fire,” the statement said.

The fire area totaled around 15 hectares. Now firefighting efforts are being made at the “sixth, 24th and 14th sectors and the trees are being cut in the 37th and 38th sectors to prevent the fire from spreading,” it reads.

The statement said the firefighting efforts were complicated by a large fire area, hot weather and variable winds.
