The checkpoint of Maryinka in Donetsk region came under fire last night and four people were wounded in the attack, the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service reported on its official webpage on Aug. 5.

“Some 100 mines exploded near the service site. The militants also used an automatic grenade launcher, firearms and a surface-to-air missile system. They later involved a tank in the attack, which was used to fire seven shots, and an anti-tank guided missile, and they also continued using firearms and a surface-to-air missile system. The defenders of the checkpoint resisted the enemy throughout the day. The Ukrainian military returned the fire, using firearms, grenade launchers and anti-tank guided missiles, to prevent the enemy from approaching the occupied positions,” the report says.

“During the exchange of fire, three border guards and one Ukrainian serviceman were wounded. One border guard was taken to a Defense Ministry military hospital. His condition is stable,” the State Border Guard Service has reported.

According to the report, three checkpoints came under fire in the past 24 hours. Besides Maryinka, the checkpoint Zolote, where Ukrainian border guards and servicemen are serving together, came under fire from firearms and a surface-to-air missile system.

A border guard unit also came under fire during the attack on Stanytsia Luhanska. “Two border guards sustained light wounds in the attack,” the State Border Guard Service has reported.
