Five Ukrainian army servicemen died and at least 17 were injured in the east in the past 24 hours, army operation spokesman Oleksiy Dmytrashkovsky told Channel 5.

He said the militia opened gunfire on Ukrainian roadblocks at least ten times.

“There have been several mortar attacks of the militants on a roadblock near Sloviansk. Three Ukrainian servicemen died in the fighting and another four sustained injuries. Later on the militants mounted a vile attack on a logistic convoy in the Luhansk region. Two servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces died and eight were injured in that clash,” the speaker said.

Information Resistance Group leader Dmytro Tymchuk said earlier that the Ukrainian army positions were shelled in the small hours of Sunday.

“The Kramatorsk airfield was put under mortar fire twice. The shooting came from the side of the city cemetery and northern areas of Kramatorsk; rifle fire was opened on a roadblock on the junction of roads to Sloviansk and Krasny Lyman and mortars shelled a Ukrainian army roadblock near the Biriukove border control post,” Tymchuk wrote on Facebook.

In his words, the Ukrainian servicemen had no casualties.
