The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine says it hopes that the Ukrainian opposition will not use the issue of the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU to try to free its political leaders.

"We deeply regret that the Ukrainian opposition is trying to link support of the Association Agreement with the EU and the issue of Yulia Tymoshenko. This is despite Tymoshenko herself again and again urging in public for these two issues not be linked to each other," Director of the Information Policy Department of the Foreign Ministry Oleh Voloshyn said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine on March 13.

According to him, the ministry expects that all parliamentary factions will support the signing of the Association Agreement and the creation of a free trade area between Ukraine and the EU as soon as possible.

"Only in such a way can they [the opposition] prove that they really care about Ukraine’s European prospects, and not the destiny of political leaders," Voloshyn said.
