Tbilisi - Georgia and Azerbaijan will put together a task force within the next 10 days to prepare a joint bid for the European football governing body, UEFA, to host the Euro 2020 championship, Georgian Football Federation President Zviad Sichinava and Azeri Association of Football Federations President Rovnag Abdullayev said at a joint press conference on Friday.

The press conference was preceded by a meeting between Sichinava and Abdullayev behind closed doors, which lasted more than an hour and a half.

Sichinava said the two had discussed practical issues, like venues of future matches, emblems, and other aspects.

Sichinava and Abdullayev were optimistic about hosting Euro 2020 at a high level. They vowed that the Georgian and Azeri governments are willing to promote the development of a football infrastructure in the two countries.

This was the first meeting between the heads of the Georgian and Azeri football federations after Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili came up with the idea of holding the championship in the two countries during his speech at the Azeri parliament earlier this year.
