Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Groysman said he is convinced that the Verkhovna Rada will finally back the changes to the country's Constitution dealing with decentralization before the end of this year.

“It will happen this year,” Groysman told a briefing in Kyiv on Aug. 31.

He said Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada has potential to get at least 300 votes in support of changes to the Ukrainian Constitution. “The 265 votes [for the tentative approval of the changes to the Ukrainian Constitution dealing with decentralization] have shown that we have potential for 300 votes,” Groysman said.

The speaker also said he is ready to fight for every vote of every representative of the coalition in support of the changes to the Ukrainian Constitution.

“I will make every effort to fight for every vote, for every member of the coalition. I believe in that, I know that this reform is true, that this reform is European, that it is in line with the European Charter of Local Self-Government. I will fight for this reform,” Groysman said.
