You're reading: Gunmen seize four coalmines in Luhansk Oblast

Armed people seized control of all the mines in Ukraine's Luhansk region owned by the Lysychanskugol coal company, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry said on Thursday.

Four coalmines “suspended production due to the assault,” the
ministry said in a statement. “Their actions contain all the marks of a
serious crime. The Ministry … has asked the Security Service of Ukraine
for an urgent reaction,” the statement said.

On Monday, two mines in Donetsk region that are undergoing
liquidation came under armed attacks with the aim of removing and
recycling equipment, it said.

On Thursday, activists blew up the bridge between the cities of Rubizhne and Lysychansk across the Siversky Donets River.
