A trial began in absentia on Tuesday, July 28, over six former Ukrainian officials, including the country's ex-President Viktor Yanukovych, Ukraine's Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin has announced.

“Today the procedure has been launched for convicting six people in absentia as part of five criminal investigations. They are former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, ex-head of the National Bank Arbuzov, former Income and Tax Minister Klymenko, former Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Raisa Bohatyriova and her deputy, as well as the former deputy income and taxes minister,” he told a press briefing at the Prosecutor General’s Office on July 28.

“Others will follow them,” he added.
