KYIV, May 18 – Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev will visit Ukraine on June 2-3 in a bid to boost ties between the two former Soviet states, Ukrainian presidential spokesman Olexander Martynenko said on Thursday.

Martynenko told Reuters Nazarbayev would meet Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma and join celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the town of Dniprodzerginsk, where the Kazakh leader once lived and studied metallurgy in Soviet times.

Energy-starved Ukraine, which heavily relies on energy delivered from its former imperial master Russia, is keen to tap oil-rich Kazakhstan as an alternative source of crude supplies.
