UDAR Party leader Vitali Klitschko has said he believes that the number of medals that Ukrainian athletes will win at the Olympic Games in London will largely depend on how the preparation of Olympic athletes for the competition was funded, the party's press service reported on Saturday.

“Let’s speak openly – our athletes have shown excellent results for many years. The financing of sports leaves much to be desired, and we are glad that this year’s funding for the preparation of athletes for the Olympics grew by one-and-a-half times. We hope that this will result in the respective number of medals that our athletes will bring home,” he said on the Olympic Passions program.

Klitschko said he was confident that a gold Olympic medal was the greatest achievement for an athlete.

“It’s always been my dream, and I regret that I did not participate in the games. I had to go to Atlanta, but it happened so that Wladimir performed in my weight category,” he said.
