BRUSSELS – The procedure of initialing the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement has started in Brussels, drawing a line under five years of negotiations.

Ukraine’s delegation is headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, who is in charge of the agreements’ political section, and Deputy Economy Minister Valeriy Piatnytsky, who is responsible for the agreement on a deep and comprehensive free trade area, which is an integral part of the document.

The EU is represented by Head of the EU European External Action Service’s department for Russia, Eastern Partnership and the western Balkans Miroslav Lajcak (in charge of political section) and Deputy Director General of the European Commission Directorate General for Trade Peter Balas (the deep and comprehensive free trade area).

The procedure of initialing is expected to last around three hours.
