You're reading: Kyiv says militants violate ceasefire more than 40 times overnight

On May 5 evening the situation in eastern Ukraine has again escalated. The illegal armed groups violated the ceasefire 42 times from 6.00 p.m. to midnight using heavy artillery, Kyiv military reported.

“The criminals again shelled residential areas. From 10.30 p.m. up to 10.50 p.m. the eastern outskirts of Chermalyk was shelled; from 11.00 p.m. till 11.30 p.m. illegal armed formations committed 10 mortar shells of 82mm caliber in direction to Leninske,” reads the report posted on the website on May 5 morning.

Moreover, in Donetsk region gangs three times fired 152mm artillery at the positions of Ukrainian forces near the town of Avdiyivka, and twice near the village of Shyrokyne.

The militants also twice fired on our positions near the village of Shyrokyne with 122mm artillery. Armed formations also fired on Ukrainian fortifications near the villages of Opytne and Vodiane using the same type of artillery, the press centre reported.

In Luhansk region positions of Ukrainian soldiers near the village of Stanytsia Luhanska were shelled most intensively by militants who used anti-aircraft installations, automatic grenade launchers and small arms.
