Ukraine has welcomed the statement of representatives of certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions about the postponement of pseudo-elections scheduled for Oct. 18 and Nov. 1, the press secretary of the Ukrainian representative in the trilateral contact group, second President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, Darka Olifer, has said.

“At the same time, we want to stress that to return certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts to the legal field, the results of the elections held on Nov. 2, 2014, should be cancelled. These elections have not been recognized by the international community, or by Kyiv or by the way by Moscow,” she wrote on her Facebook page on Oct. 6.

According to her, this step will allow for holding fair, lawful and just elections in certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts on the basis of the electoral legislation of Ukraine, taking into account OSCE requirements, which is fully consistent with the Minsk agreements and the agreements reached by the leaders of the Normandy Four in Paris on Oct. 2.

As reported, the administrations of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) announced on Oct. 6 that they would postpone holding local elections until next year.
