A large-scale military operation involving artillery weapons and combat aircraft has been launched in Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, Donetsk's Ostrov news website reported on May 29, citing its sources and eyewitnesses.

“A large-scale “anti-terrorist” operation has begun in Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. Airstrikes are being carried out against the militants’ fire positions. Grad multiple rocket launchers are being used,” OstroV said, referring to one of its sources.

According to OstroV, people write on the Free Sloviansk Twitter account: “They say that people are not being allowed to leave Cherevkivka [village near Sloviansk], where an offensive is underway using helicopters and airplanes. Explosions and gunfire can be heard near the railway. They say weapons have been positioned on the premises of the 66th and 70th kindergartens.”

People have also said on social networking Web sites that there have been disruptions to mobile phone services in the area due to a traffic overload problem on the cellular network.

However, Interfax-Ukraine can’t confirm that the counter-terror operations carried in Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
