Law enforcers have interrogated over 340 citizens and ordered over 80 expert examinations in the month following the mass riots in Odesa, Deputy Head of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine Hryhoriy Mamka has said.

According to his Monday report, the first results have already started to come in, but the majority of the results are expected from June 10 until June 15. These results will include conclusions of forensic investigations that are to shed light on the cause of death of people whose bodies were found after the mass riots in Odesa Trade Union House.

According to the Public Relations Department of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine, the victim identification process is ongoing, as 48 of them remain unidentified. DNA tests are being conducted to identify individuals. The investigators are also waiting for the results of expert examinations to find out whether chloroform was in the building.

“After conducting forensic medical, fire-safety and construction examinations, there will be a complex investigation with the involvement of foreign experts, who will come to specific conclusions regarding the cause that brought a quick death to the victims,” Mamka said.

According to him, there are currently 40 suspects in Odesa crimes. Most have been placed under home arrest. However, 13 people were put in custody. A couple of other detainees that had been brought to Kyiv from Odesa were placed under home arrest rather than detention in custody, as the prosecutor’s office had petitioned for.
